How to choose the Right Wedding Dress
Picking out a gown for your wedding day is probably one of the most important, fantisized-about days of your life. It needs to be planned very carefully, whether you are going to a bridal shop to purchase your gown or choose to have the bridal shop come to you online. This is a very personal purchase and even though you will have many people, especially Mom, with good intentions wanting to help with it, the final decision must be one that you totally and completely love.
Let’s begin with the style. Looking in all the bridal magazines and online bridal sites that are out there is a lot of fun and you can get a wealth of information, but not about you, personally. Where can you get information about YOUR style; what looks good on YOU? In your own bedroom closet, of course! Start there. You’ll have an idea of what you like and what styles look good on your figure.
The A-line cut gown is very flattering for many body types, particularly if you are short and curvy. It will lay gracefully over the curves and you will appear to be slightly taller. If you’re looking for a dress that will flatter your large bust, a few choices to consider are the strapless bodice, making sure the dress has interior boning for support; a dress with wide straps which will give support, but not cut into the shoulders; and, finally, a deep V neck will flatter and, when properly fitted, will produce a beautiful neckline. The empire-waist is a classic style that never seems to go out of fashion. If you have an undefined waistline, this is a good choice for you. If you are a full-figured woman, consider the very fashionable side-drape, which starts at the natural waist and ends across the body a couple inches below your hip on the opposite side. If your dress doesn’t have boning, you can create a smooth fit with a seamless bustier. And, you can increase your bustline with a corset that fits snugly and rests on your hips.
Illusion is not only for magicians. You can create an incredible bustline with the right dress. A halter with a plunging neckline will produce the illusion of a larger bust with cleavage. What parts of your body are phenomenal? Perhaps you have a pretty back; go for a plunging backline, with an intricate, eye-catching train. If your arms are not your strong point, consider a sleeve in a filmy fabric giving the illusion of bareness, while concealing. Want to show off your legs, but still want the floor length gown, go with the front, back, or side slit.
Color is now about preference. There are no longer hard and fast rules about what you should wear, what he should wear, or what your attendants should wear. When you look at those wedding photographs, make sure you see what makes you smile. That’s what the day is all about. If you want the traditional white, but want to add some color to your ensemble, add it in your shoes or on the headpiece holding your veil. No longer a taboo at weddings, black and white has gained huge popularity not only for the groom, but also for the bride. White with black accessories for the bride, including the bouquet, and attendants in black makes a striking presentation. If you like it and it looks good, go for it.
Shopping for your gown, after you’ve done all the advance preparation, is the next step. And, what could be better than to match your style choices with a dream-come-true gown from a top designer such as Vera Wang. Why pay the same price for a dress when you can get a designer gown, some only dream of, for the same cost.
